Project Info

The Olympics already own five rings. The question was what happens when they turn up somewhere nobody expects them, at a scale that makes a helicopter feel small.

Key Details

We generated the rings as carved ice sitting off the coast, then matched them to the plate. Refraction through the ice, the ripple where each ring meets the water, and the haze over the far headland all had to agree with each other. The helicopter door stays in frame on purpose, because the handheld point of view is what makes the scale read.
